The Coast's Best of Food issues have celebrated the culinary scene in
Metro Halifax for five years, awarding prizes to the finest people,
restaurants and shops. This year, two of CEED's loan clients were
honoured for their contributions to the food industry. On the cutting
edge, as entrepreneurs usually are, Alteregos Café and The Bean Sprout
Café were praised for their versions of the latest popular lunch item:
grilled sandwiches. The Bean Sprout won first prize in the Best
Sandwich (grilled) category, and owner/manager Colin Keshen was 1st
runner-up in the Best Coffee Slinger category. A group of foodies from
across the city voted Alteregos panini sandwiches as one of the best
ways to spend your last $10, writing "something magical happens in that
ironpress."

Well, we at CEED happen to be on the cutting edge of food fashion
ourselves, and often order catering from either the Bean Sprout or
Altergos for lunch meetings - not just because we're in the business of
supporting small businesses, but because they're good.

If you want to know what all the fuss is about, check them out
Alteregos Café (in the Halifax Backpackers Hostel) and the Bean Sprout
Café on Parkland street.

The Coast also had high praise for another restaurant in the CEED
family. Talay Thai, opened just over a year, was voted 1st runner up in
both the Best New Restaurant and Best International Fare categories.
Again, we've had the pleasure of trying out their authentic Thai fare
and we agree completely!
