Jen estas la temo de 2010/5/4:

This is the topic of May 4th, 2010:

Does pursuing beauty have a reason?

What is beauty? Why are we pursuing beauty?

The history of pursuing beauty can be traced back to pre-history. Ancient Egyptians wore adipoid balls which were immersed in lily and lotus, in order to emanate fragrance. As time goes by, beauty becomes to have consensus standards. For instance, Fair Complexion is accepted as a beauty standard by both western and eastern people. This standard derived from Greece where women were supposed to have light skin while men were supposed to have dark outlook.

In modern times, pursuing beauty has developed into an industry. Cosmetics, printing and dyeing, jewelries, and plastic surgery, etc. make our outlooks to approach the consensus beauty standards. It is easier than before to change one’s “bad” looking, so we have more pretty ladies and cute guys with the mask of cosmetics and luxurious dresses.

The topic is: people pay a lot of money and time on beauty, does that make sense? Is a good looking so important?
