I need to export a 1920x1080i 57 minute piece in FCP7 to 720 x 480 with a maximum size of 500 MB for upload. I exported it with  QT custom, H.264 best quality, 720 x 480, video scale 480 x 360, 29.97, and video bitrate of 1700. It is 977 MB and took about three hours.

I am now exporting it with QT conversion, and it tells me it will take another 10 hours. It is two and a half hours into exporting now. No idea what the size will be.

Does anyone have an idea how to export the best possible quality and yet keep it under 500MB?

Thanks!!
Grace

Export as your seq. then go to mpeg streamclip software and export a mpeg-4 and limit the data rate to 10000 Kbps. I think it will work.

Grace,

Also you can try these settings in compressor (attached) Although I have moved on to FCPX I used them in FCP7 with great success. Actually I got them from a seminar with Larry Jordan in Miami a few years ago.
Best,

Alejandro

FCPx's share function displays a solid estimate of the final size.

I also have to put a plug in for DV Creators DVKitchen which beyond being a very fast encoding tool, has a extensive previewing for quality and sizing.

There is a free trial download.

Hi, Orlando,
I am using FCP7.
I have tried exporting with FCP QT custom to H.264 and 720 x 480.  977 MB
I have tried with FCP QT conversion to MPEG4 and 720 x 480. 742 MB
I have tried it with 640 instead of 720. 977 MB
I tried with converter to H.264. 977.7 MB
The viewing size must be 480 x 360 so I am constrained from using Alejandro's way.
I am about to try importing the finished movie into FCP and then exporting. No idea what will happen.

Will DV creators kitchen work for FCP7?

Thanks everyone! Each export takes upward of 3 hours. The QT conversion took 10. I would so like to solve this!!!!!

 Hi Grace,

Did you ever get your export settings for this?  I am curious to know what finally worked for you.  If you don't mind sharing.

Thanks
Michele

No, it's still over 900KB. I'll post it when I have a solution.
Best,
Grace

Grace, you can always adjust the dimensions with the settings I gave you. It might appear that you can't but actually you can change that by selecting the 'video' in compressor....(not the settings)
