Dear Staff:
Tomorrow (October 10th), the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral
arguments for Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin, a case that
challenges the role of diversity in higher education and the use of
race as one of the many factors in the University of Texas admissions
policy. The SEIU legal team has been actively involved with this case
from the legal side by filing an amicus brief in the Supreme Court
with the NEA, AFL, AFT, AFSCME and People for the American Way and
providing support for this very important effort.
You can get involved too! Our partners at the Leadership Conference
for Civil Rights (LCCR), Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance
(APALA), Generational Alliance, United States Students Association
(USSA), and many others are planning an action tomorrow at 11am (the
rally will actually go from 8:30am-1pm, but the high point of the
rally will be at 11am) at the Supreme Court (1 First Street, NE,
Washington DC) to show support for affirmative action/equal
opportunity programs that can have a major impact on campus diversity
across the country.
Join our partners at the rally tomorrow and stand up for equal
opportunity and campus diversity! Please RSVP via this link
(
bit.ly/SaveDiversity) to let the rally organizers know you're
planning to participate. If you can't make the rally, please support
the rally by forwarding this call to action and the attached flyer out
to anyone you know in DC who could attend!
