Respect Girls on the Net (RGNET) is an initiative by Youth Empowerment Society (YES) founded by Shilpa Sayura e Sri Lanka Project (
www.shilpasayura.org ). RGNET project aims to create youth awareness and dialog on the problems faced by Girls on internet using social media, thereby create Empathy to form a strong anti cyber harassment community around the country. Last year Techcert & LK domain funded fakepost short film which helped the youth to win this community grant from ISOC.
Now we have started building a support community on facebook for advocacy and awareness. We also plan to develop a creative commons Local Language Cyber Privacy e Handbook targeted for new entrants to internet, teachers and parents.
We invite ISOC Sri Lanka and fellow members and all other stakeholders to join hands to infuse this campaign to create Cyber Harassment free social network space for Girls in Sri Lanka. Our youth implementing this project needs research data, case studies, ideas and additional resources to expand this project islandwide before more lives of girls are affected.
Please Join and share your thoughts..We like to know any other initiatives which we can connect to create a stronger community based cyber harassment protection mechanism in Sri Lanka. We are looking for new partners to take this initiative to every school, every university, every village, every city and every offices of Sri Lanka.
I again thank all friends and colleagues those who have helped many of our ICT4D infinitives to help develop Sri Lanka,
