As time goes the more it seems like what the metaweb needs is a tool for smart bookmarklets+proxy with advanced features such as plugins, user accounts and so on...

Most of the discovery issue can be taken care of by Facebook and Twitter, that was not the case when we started. In-page serendipitous discovery seems like an advanced feature that would become desirable only when the environment matures and the user base gets more sophisticated.
