I browsed the free index at Roots Ireland tonight. I found

Martin Simon born 1845 Co. Galway.

I also found Thomas 1837 Co. Meath and Westmeath (five different Thomas Simons born that year)

Patrick 1839 Co. Meath and Westmeath (3 different Patrick Simons born that year)

Margaret 1840 Co. Clare (only one born in the surrounding years).

So it looks like our family migrated from either Meath or Westmeath to Co. Clare and Co. Galway before they came to Manchester.

I also found a marriage record for Thomas Samon 1832 in Galway county.  Odd for them then to return to Meath or Westmeath after marriage. Not sure if that is our family. I cannot find a similar record for Bridget Logan/Lawhgen or any other spelling. IT may be weirder than I’m anticipating.

To view the record, it is 5 Euros or about $7.50. I will think about these a while and then maybe I’ll check it out. Maybe we need some more research to figure out where they came from.
