Thomas and James in 1881

Attached is an 1881 census for Thomas Simons. He is listed with a William Simons (age 21) and a Catherine Simon (age 18). James Simmons appears age 14. All of them are listed as his children. We know James took on the Simons name, and since we don’t know where he was in 1881, it seems likely he was going as Thomas’ son in these years.

 

Note that Thomas Simons’ age is different than that on the ship manifest. But it seems likely to me that this is our family! It seemed rather old for him to be 72 on the ship…
