So, this page of the 1881 England Census has James Simmons, along with
Martin and Margaret A., and definitely looks like ours. Unfortunately,
there's no James D., and we're still unsure of the whereabouts of the
father, Thomas.

According to this census, Margaret [Shields] has probably already left
for New York. However, if that's true, Mrs. Mary Jane Thompson may be
our evil landlady... Could definitely help us with our timeline.

Martin Simmons is listed as being born in County Galway, Ireland, which
corroborates the information about Patrick in his brief bio about being
a native of County Galway, Ireland. Strangely, James is listed as being
born in Manchester, although we understand him to also have been born in
Ireland.

James - Mason's Labourer
Martin - Carter (drives a cart, often pulled by a horse, at a farm or in
town, hauling hay, etc.)

Do we know where Thomas (the father) or James D. are in 1881?
