Urgent Appeal for Tents-Sindh Floods 2011

Dear All,

In response to the GoPs request for international assistance for the 2011 Floods affected communities the clusters have been officially activated at the provincial (Sindh) level since yesterday afternoon. I should have been writing this email for inviting you all for the Cluster meeting but the evolving nature of the situation has made me to launch this appeal before we meet. I'm writing you these lines from PDMA Sindh office where a recent development has been reported from district Badin when  talukas Tando Bagho and Badin have become extremely vulnerable to a higher inundation from a likely and high over flow from Left Bank Out Fall Drain( LBOD). As a result, the authorities have decided to evacuate the whole population which is roughly estimated as 100,000 to a safer location (Makli) in the adjoining district Thatta. The evacuation will probably commence from this morning. PDMA has approached all clusters for a quick response in the respective sectors.

Given the resources available with the authorities and the shelter cluster members (as expressed by some), the shelter need still remains high. In these circumstances, the cluster has no option except looking back at its members for their stepping forward in assisting the authorities to assist these flood affected communities. If you have any available stocks of tents or the NFIs, please let me know how and when these can be supplied to the relocation site. Please note that the relocation site, which is not established at all physically as of yet, will start receiving the children, elderly, people with serious medical conditions, female headed household and with so many other vulnerabilities challenging the HUMANITY.
