Dear All,
The United Nations has designated the first Monday of October every year as World Habitat Day. This year, World Habitat Day is being celebrated on 1st October, 2012. The purpose is to reflect on the state of our towns and cities and the basic right of all, to adequate shelter. It is also intended to remind the world of its collective responsibility for the future of the human habitat.
The United Nations has selected ‘Changing Cities, Building Opportunities’ as their theme on the premise that cities are primary engines of growth that serves as a platform for achieving goals and fulfilling dreams. Under similar pursuit, UN-Habitat vows to prioritize the need to plan our cities better as unplanned growth of cities lead to chaotic development and detrimental urban sprawl. Well planned cities afford opportunities to both current and future residents with open arms. In a similar spirit to stimulate civil society activism/initiative, UN-Habitat’s new campaign, ‘I am a city changer’ seeks to welcome all in transforming their cities a better place to reside in.
This year UN-Habitat Pakistan is observing World Habitat Day in Islamabad in collaboration with the Ministry of Climate Change. The event is scheduled for Monday 1st October, 2012 and will take place at Marriot Hotel Islamabad from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
To mark this occasion nationally, the UN-Habitat presents you with the opportunity to showcase contributions made by your organization with relevance to this year’s theme through an exhibition stall (criteria is attached) . Please send you requests before September 15th, 2012 to focal person (given below), so that the UN-Habitat management can assign your space/stalls on the standard first-come, first-serve basis.
