Benchmarks in Computer Chess

Dear members,
 
just an introductory note.
 
There are tons of benchmarking software
and tools for the performance comparison
of computers in different segments like
graphics, cpu etc and overall. 3DMark,
MemTest, Prime95 just to name a few. Some
of them are listed on the following links:
 
 
 
 
Those above are general purpose benchs
and their use might not be appropriate
for computer chess. In computer chess,
fritz, crafty and rybka benchmarks are
widely used. Only some chess engines
have built-in benchmarks. I felt I should
add that Arena Chess GUI introduced a
new ArenaMark in its latest 2.0 series.
 
Fritz Benchmarks of high speed computers:
 
 
 
 
Most important figure here is nps, ie 
nodes per second. In today's writings,
this figure is being used as knps,
kilo nps or mnps, mega nps.
