Hey Crew –

If you have served with us for Big Sunday in the past, I’d love to give you an opportunity to gather your friends and help us pull off some Big Projects this year. The Big Sunday Staff have reached out to us to help…let’s deliver!

Take a look at  the 10 opportunities below. Contact Adr...@mosaic.org if you and your friends would be willing to help guide one of these projects. We will help you with information, resources, tools to help make a BIG DIFFERENCE!

Reaching out –

Adrian

Deliver Meals on Wheels
Help St. Vincent's bring delicious hot meals to elderly or critically ill people who can't leave home. We've been working with them on Big Sunday since our very first year! During that time, we've only delivered on Sunday. This year, it's our pleasure to send volunteers to deliver meals on Saturday, too! This isn't the easiest job on this list, but it's always one of the most rewarding.

Make a New Old Friend in Boyle Heights
Hollenbeck Palms has been serving the senior community for more than 100 years. They would love someone to come and entertain them for an hour on Big Sunday. Kids are always welcome. (Any glee clubs or choruses out there?) Adults are welcome, too - but, per their request, adult musicians have to be pros. (That's what they're used to!)

Tell a Shaggy Dog Story (North L.A. and South L.A.)
L.A. Animal Services (better known as "The Pound") is home to many lost dogs and cats. The nice folks at the shelter do everything they can to find these animals new homes. (And, in fact, we're working together at an adoption fair on the Saturday of Big Sunday weekend.) This year, for the first time, we're working together on a special project: Writers of all ages are invited to come to every pound in L.A. to write up the story - real or imagined - of the dogs waiting to find new homes. The stories will be posted on the dogs' cages, with the hope that when prospective owners come by and know more about the dogs, it will be that much harder to pass them by. Bring your laptop if you want! Photographers are welcome, too. The event will be followed by a tour of the pound, and an animal or two will come out to meet the guests.

Brighten a Home for Women With Hard Lives
The Phoenix House Santa Fe Springs Women’s' Program helps female parolees and their children. Their clients are often undereducated and unskilled. All have histories of substance abuse, many have been homeless, and some are mentally ill. Phoenix House helps with drug treatment, parenting and vocational skills, and therapy and counseling. Last year we went to this home for the first time and had a great time. This year they've asked for help purchasing and installing solar panels so that they can use their outdoor area for evening social gatherings. While we're there, we'll be doing  some painting and gardening, too. They could also use 60 new twin mattresses and bed spreads.

Make a New Old Friend in Sherman Oaks
The Village at Sherman Oaks is a retirement home with nearly 300 residents. Their residents would love some visitors, to chat, sing, or maybe even do arts and crafts. In fact, they're open to whatever you'd like to do. They're nice people, and happy and grateful for the company. (Unless it's little kids, running around unsupervised,  which they find a little annoying. Then again, who wouldn't?) This is a great project for friendly people of all ages.

Clean Up in a Big Way in Stanton
Come on by as our old friends at Rebuilding Together Orange County host an amazing cleanup and beautification day in the City of Stanton. (They're expecting about 75% of the people in the town to turn out!) Volunteers are needed to fix up, paint out, remove debris, mow lawns, and trim trees. Last year when Rebuilding Together and the City of Stanton got together, they cleared out more than 6 tons of debris. (Not sure if that's an incentive to go, or something that's sure to keep you away.) In any case, it should be a great and busy day with many people pitching in in all kinds of way. There will be lunch for everyone at noon. Then, as they say, "We'll work as long as we have volunteers."

Beach Blvd & Pacific St
Stanton, 90680
Sat:  7:30 am to 12:00
