题目: AN ANALYSIS OF INJURY-SEVERITY OF LARGE-TRUCK CRASHES
摘要: The importance of trucking to freight logistics and, consequently, its impact on the economic well being of a nation is well acknowledged in literature. The large volumes of truck traffic, the unique operating characteristics of the trucks and drivers, and the design and weight of trucks have resulted in large numbers of crashes, injuries, and fatalities. Yet, research on the injury severity of large-truck crashes is relatively minimal. Further, most studies focus only on the highest level of injury severity in the crash and not on the injuries sustained by each person involved. Finally, the ordered-probit structure, which is the most popular method, is restrictive in capturing the effects of explanatory factors on injury severity. In light of the above discussions, this study develops panel-data methods that model the injury severity of all persons involved in a crash recognizing appropriate intra-vehicle and intra-crash correlations. Further, the (panel) ordered generalized extreme value (OGEV) structure is used which is more flexible than the ordered probit (ORP) approach in capturing the effects of explanatory variables.
