Family vacation

Just wondering if there's any plans for our family vacation over the 4th of July like for example flights for Matt and Betsy? Does anyone have anything in particular we'd like to do or will this be a relax and play games vacation? We're open to any ideas. Love you all! -Mom

There are no plans. We are all cool and care more about being together than doing anything specific.

That is also my view of things. But I know that that uncertainty can be a bit anxiety inducing for some of us. :-)

To be more concrete: 

- It would be nice to go down to Aurora. Fireworks there from the yard is nice, and I would like to take Betsy out of SLC a bit.

- Betsy and I haven't bought tickets yet, but are planning to fly in Friday night and fly back Wednesday (so we can can be in Aurora Tuesday morning and not have to hurry back to SLC that day).

How about we plan on being in SLC all day on Saturday and possibly Sunday depending on what you all would want, then travel to Aurora on Sunday or Monday. Mostly I need to plan on meals since we don't have restaurants available like in the big cities. Any requests for menus? -Mom

That sounds good to us, especially since we got tickets and it was better to fly in on Saturday.  Itinerary below.

A few other things:

I'm planning to take Monday the 3rd off (and hopefully Janelle is too), but I really can't easily take off the 5th (and I don't think Janelle can either). Additionally, Janelle and I have a work offsite that is the evening of the 6th through the 7th so if Alyssa could be with grandparents during that time, that'd be super helpful. How does that align with plans people have?

As far as you two getting back to work on the 5th, I'd be glad to transport Matt and Betsy to SLC on the 5th. I am thinking the other possibility is to bring both your cars so you can go back separately, but they would probably need to take Uber from your house to the airport. So we'd only have one night with all of us in Aurora.  Or would it be better to have you all come here on Sunday and Dad and I wouldn't come to Salt Lake at all. Or you all come on Sunday and all go back on Tuesday. Just throwing out thoughts...

My understanding is that Alyssa has Brown cousin birthday party on the 5th so she could stay down this way and perhaps go camping that weekend with us. I have to be in Salt Lake with her on the following Monday for her Animal Jam camp. We'll work on those details but I am sure having her with us is doable. 

I decided on having shrimp and/or chicken or beef kabobs one night and crock pot meat the other night.  How does that sound? -Mom

Our flight on the 5th is at 3:10 pm, so we'd need to come up either afternoon/evening of 4th or earlyish on the 5th.

What sounded good to me was us all coming down on Sunday and back up Tuesday afternoon/evening.

I started writing this all out and how did this get so complicated?

The option that makes the most sense to me is Mom and Dad come up Friday night/Saturday morning, Betsy and I fly in Saturday, we all drive down on Sunday. Tuesday afternoon, Matt, Betsy, Nick, and Janelle go back to SLC. Alyssa stays with Mom/Dad in Aurora. Matt and Betsy arrange own transport to airport on Wednesday while Nick/Janelle go to work.

Granted, I'm jumping to a couple assumptions gleaned from passing mentions in previous emails, so that might not work. Betsy and I really are happy to be flexible (we can get transport back to airport, or drive cars, or cram in or whateaver). We're also happy to get on a quick call/facetime/whatever this weekend and talk this out real quick if you want to have this nailed down soon, Mom.

Oh Matt, remember everything is complicated. However, your option sounds very reasonable. I'd like to offer one more option: You all come to Aurora on Saturday and spend three nights here since there's not a lot of time on Saturday that we'll all be together anyway. Also, it would allow Matt and Betsy to only have to unpack twice (in Aurora and then Tuesday night in Salt Lake) rather than three times (Saturday and Tuesday nights in Salt Lake and the rest in Aurora). We could possibly have three dinner meals together instead of two, one of which could be Carnitas (I sort of forgot about that option and am now a little surprised no one else suggested it). If you need Dad and I to come to Salt Lake to help transport everyone, we can do that. We are glad to do whatever to help make this less complicated and enjoyable for everyone. We just have to be at the house for the day when we cook either crock pot meat or carnitas and Dad has to work on the 5th also. Dad and I are going to St. George tomorrow and will buy the meat and stuff we need then, so it would be good to have some input on this today. Also, Matt, can you add Betsy to the group (I'm thinking Janelle is already on but I can't see how to check). -Mom

I just realized Matt & Betsy are coming in at 4:00 on Saturday, so actually dinner that night is not a good possibility, but you all can stop somewhere on the way and eat. We would just need to decide on whether the two dinners we would have together should be crock pot and carnitas or crock pot and shish-ka-bobs. -Mom

Driving down Saturday after we arrive sounds good to us. If Nick and Janelle don't want to come down Saturday we could steal one of their cars and come down and they could come down Sunday or whenever. We could then easily all get back to Salt Lake Tuesday evening.

My preference for food is carnitas over shish-ka-bobs.
