Spent 3 days at Welcome, Nv. Sun Tunnels were much more impressive with the sun coming up. Nice little visitor center in Wells. We’re at Farewell Bend on Snake River tonight. Head for hell’s gate tomorrow

I just realized, Welcome, NV must be out close to where on I-80 there is an exit for Welcome/Starr Valley that I've always thought very coincidental given our uncle's name.

I've never heard of that, but thought it was delightful and found this image very quickly.

So we actually stayed in Welcome NV, the RV park was called Welcome RV. All there is to Welcome is the RV park and some ranches, however. The owner of the RV park had tried to find out where the name came from, but didn't have any luck but thinks the name was adopted in about 1940. Ben had evidently seen the same sign that Matt remembered, but he claimed that that was where Grandma and Grandpa got the name. However, Gary remembers Grandpa saying (which Dorothy collaborated) that Starr waited until the day after Christmas and they welcomed his arrival and the Starr was part of Christmas. In fact Dorothy's words were: He said that since Starr was born around Christmas (the 26th) – and he had not actually been born on Christmas, when they saw him they said “well, Welcome!”  Sounds sort of strange but I can see something like that happening.  Perhaps a little Christmas nog was involved????  How coincidental (or random) that Matt had also seen the sign and wondered about it and then we ended up staying there. The RV park was definitely an oasis with lots of trees and stream running through it.

Interesting.

Looks like that specific sign definitely didn't exist when Starr was born. I-80 in NV was built in 1956. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstate_80_in_Nevada
