Muy Importante.

Please, if you have any ideas for fund raising, post them here.

1. Staged readings. We do an invitational(?) staged reading for
donations. Something we don't pay ourselves for that can be produced
easily.

2. Parties. I mean of the danceable variety. DJs, bands, film
screenings. 10 bucks entry somewhere that serves drinks and we book
local, popular musicians/DJs as well as ourselves for entertainment.

Parties are very good use of space that few theatres do. Most have the
space and lights availible. It's very easy to write a few sets of cues
that make "dance" lights. Throw in a fogger or two and go to town.

Also one place I worked for did a late night improv night. They split
the take with the group and made some decent scratch. I also heard of
one that did Rocky Horror. It was in a slightly bigger space, I think
150 instead of 65 seat theatre, but still something to think of.

Can't beat standing outside with a cardboard sign, "Will recite
monologues for $$$".

We'd need a space first, to do parties. Right?

Mike has a friend connected with the NEA that's gonna get some grant
info together for us.

What Sal said about the cardboard sign actually has merit, I think.
What about occasional street performances? You don't need a budget to
do them. Just time. We could come up with a few short, simple, eye
catching gimmicks and pass the hat around? You could make a hundred
bucks pretty easily I bet. It would be fun at the very least. Course in
Seattle that's definately a summer activity.

just a heads up, its nice to want to be steeped in culture, but be careful about exoticizing. mythology is cool, but be careful about appropriating. yes, i am currently hyper aware of these issues, and sorry not to be a downer, but i'm really done in participating in all that bull crap. i hate being tacked on the national geographic wall, and i won't do the same to others. sorry again. kira

I talked with my Grandmother today and she suggested finding an Angel.
Meaning someone who will shell out money for us to create art. She has
a few friends who have done this and most turned out alright. One
totally lost his shirt. So charming some rich older person with money
might be the course of action.

Yeah, an angel patron is what we need.

We need to ask the people we know who have some money to help.
How? Is there something we can do in return? Could we have little
fundraisers where we are now in any way?

In return they get a tax write off right? If we establish 501c3
status... Also we could give out sexual favors in return.

...Just an idea.

Once we get more organized (a name, a mission statement, positions, a
season, a estimated budget) then we could seend out letters asking for
fundung right?

I'll ask a couple of the theatres I know and see what they say.
