Me and Gannon brainstorming names on the way back from NM:

First Story Project
or
1st Story Project

I like it alot. It sounds urban. It has the double meaning of the 1st
story of a building (the foundation) and the 1st story told--the
beginning of storytelling. I think it rolls off the tongue and is both
vague and concrete at the same time. It's not to masculine or to
feminine. It's simple and easy to remember. Just another idea...what do
yall think?

I do like it.  My only concern is that it reminds me of "The Laramie PROJECT".  I am just saying that that play is still incredibly popular and so that's the first thing I think of when something has project in it.  That might only be because I smed that show.  But I like the double meaning.

I like the first story ALOT. I second Brenda though when it comes to "project." The word still seems too small to me. A play could be a "project" - but I'd rather not have it in the name of a company. Which isn't really a project like a model airplane but a massive endeavor. I am not ashamed of the word theater at all. I don't think that we should worry about saying theater or not saying theater. I mean, theater is what we are. If our company is good, the scary word "theater" won't scare people away. If everyone wants to call what we are doing a "project" I will accept it - but for my money I think we can skip the project part.
What about...
The first story ensemble
The first story collective
first story stage
first story theatrics

Or any other name we haven't come up with.

I really like the word project. It sounds urban, mysterious, and
interesting. Theater has come to mean something very specific today. I like
other words because they imply we are trying to do something different.
Taking a new angle on the outdated artform of theater. I like the words
project and experiment. I like collective as well. I can handle that. I
think the name "first story" to work for me has to have something that
doesn't sound theatery after it. I don't like first story ensemble or first
story theater. Don't exactly know why. Other names work with theater after
them. First story doesn't. For me. Of course, as always, I am extremely
malliable on this subject, so if everyone loves it, I can totally handle it.

Project to me implies something like when I go to school and they assign a "Project"  But Morgan I also agree that sometimes putting theater or ensemble after something is just a little too common.  I will be on the road for the next couple of days so if you need to get in contact with me you have my number.

Also Gannon, once in Ithaca I will be contacting you about our Artistic Director roles.  I promise!!  Yea!!!

The Gigantic Splash

The Dissipators.

The Evaporating Ego.

Egoics

Monkey Wrench Project. (ooo, we up ta no good.)

MajorMinor(that's like "HappySad" vaguely alluding drama masks but in a quirky way.)

The Fabrics

Multiple Mirrors

Back to what we said about our final word. Like "Project" or "theater."

Let's everyone respond to this question:

"What are we?" And we put that answer on the end.

I think we are: Projectors. Reformers. illusion. illustrators.

What about this: The Human Illustration. It could be dramatic or comic. just bonesy and real.
or The Illustration. The Illustrators.

I'm just typing out loud.

I just read all of the group emails at once... and I
have to say... I fell in love with this one:

Monkey Wrench Project. (ooo, we up ta no good.)

It has a sense of humor, it's fun, it's kind of
inactive, which is one of the drawbacks to it.
However, I isntantly began picturing logos... and had
a good 5 second daydream about it. I think that says
a lot for my imagination.

I don't have a problem with First Story (tag whatever
else onto it that you will). However, I think we can
still do better.

My $.02,
Felisa

I like
The Human Illustration.
and
The Illustration
I really like the word "human." That's what theater's all about right? And
if we're talking about audience accessibility what we're really talking
about is human theater.

On that note what about:
The Human Door Theater Company
Human Stage Productions
Human Art Movement (HAM) harharhar...
The Human Phase

On another note what about:
Tragic Flaw Theater
Gorgon Productions
Snake Hair Theater
Turtle Ego Theater
Sheet Bend Theater
Tom Smith Productions
Ninja Warrior Repertory Company
Stick in the Mud Theater
Wake Defection Theater ("every revolutionary law has naturally left in its
wake defection resentment and counterrevolutionary sentiment")
The Image Makers
Visible Track of Turbulence Theater
Leviathan Arts
ico ico Arts (how do you spell "ico"? as in ico ico anday)
Bully Tree Theater
Neutral Ground Arts

I don't know.
Ah!
Moran fuck i mean Morgan

some new ones i thought of:
The Dissappearing.
as in, "go see the dissappearing." or what if we just called ourselves

The Apparition.
as in, "the ghost." or
Everyone.
as in "brought to you by everyone." Is it everyone?
WHat about, "The Everyone Endeavor"
I like it. It *ring dings*

some new name suggestions:

humaneyes - reads one way, sounds like something else. I like it.
Implies a human perspective as well as a human portrayal: "Humanized"

junkyard 7 - junkyard meaning making something of nothing. 7 alluding
to the original # of people but it wouldn't be exclusive. Its funky and
lowbrow but we could still do high brow if we wanted. My only concern:
will this alienate potential wealthy patrons?

anthropolis- means simply "city of humans" Morgan hates it. so I guess
its dead but I like it.

echo echo- we may have posted this before, but if not...here it is.
kinda funny. Not really significant or heavy. I haven't come to hate it
yet.

endo tick - "inside the tick" tick as in personal attribute not as in
insect.

here are some words but not complete titles:
tick
shift
fiasco
asylum(means both "peace" and "madness")
scrap
eye

rich people who appreciate low brow.

also just wanted to mention "endotick" is a word(s) we came across on a
walk. it was spraypainted on the sidewalk. have no idea why or what it
means. but it sounds cool I like it. And i like junkyard 7. also possible
"theater company" alternatives:
performance (ie endotick performance or endotick performance company)
collective
group
theatrics
movement (as in philosophical movement not acrobatics)

I can't recall if these have been posted. Forgive me if this is
redundant.

1."Daedalus"
2."Boneyard"
3."Vanishing Point"

I saw Morgan's suggestion of "The Neutral Ground" and wanted to bring
that one back up. I like it.

We have until July 1st.
