Please see below for descriptions of the intermediate/advanced
classes being offered soon:
104 - THE BASIC SALON 5
This is the final course in Jaimes intensive program, introducing
students to the five basic figures; the salida basica , ochos from the cross, the parada, back ochos and the turn with sacadas. The focus of this course is the smooth and logical transitioning from being off axis and on the body with an apilado lean to being on one?s own axis for smooth and complete pivots and turns. These are essential techniques for one?s continuation into the intermediate level of the dance.
202- CHANGES OF DIRECTION
Explore the oft-neglected but critical method of negotiating space and
time on the social dance floor. Both legendary and revolutionary, changes of direction constitute a defining line between intermediate and advanced dancers. A wealth of knowledge and technique is involved in executing these beautiful movements with the precision that makes them so much fun to dance. Students should be comfortable with the turn before enrolling in this course.
204-BOLEOS
Those pretty “kicky” things? Yes, boloes are nearly
as definitive of tango as the cross. And although they may be considered Tango Candy by some, they are powerful tools in the development of the structure and musicality of the dance. To lead and follow boleos well requires the understanding of a few simple principles, and, of course, a whole lot of practice. Students get plenty of both in this series.
