DNA proves that my Selkirkshire Cowans connect up with at least some
of these Scotch-Irish immigrants, through the Stirling Cowans. It was
quite a thrill to see Cowane Street in Stirling this spring.

Christie, what research have you done on Joseph and his family? It is
important to begin with yourself, and document each link, and each
family, step by step as you go back. Often you will find information
on one sibling that throws light on the rest of the family. So it's
important to seek out land records, tax lists, voting records, wills,
pensions, immigration / naturalization, obituaries, etc. -- on
*everybody*. You know where these people are buried, so you can look
for cemetery records, monument carver records, burial, death,
transport records, and on and on. Plus of course the other records I
mentioned. Have you looked for newspaper accounts of the train crash?
Especially as reported in the home-town newspaper, rather than where
the accident took place, although that might have interesting
information also.
Tell us more about what research you have done, and maybe we can help
you specifically.
