to Scottish-Cowans
As I explained in my invitation, I've recently become intrigued by the
New York COWANs. Some research indicates that the men and their
families were brothers and cousins of my Cowans, who came to Ontario
Canada in 1842. There were visits back and forth through the years, but
now it seems we have all lost touch. How nice it would be to connect
this family together again, over 150 years after they left Scotland!
More about this family, from another distant cousin in Ontario:

My Cowans came from Selkirkshire; where did yours come from? Have any
of you contacted Cowans living in Scotland now, and were they related?

My new-found cousin sent me to this site: http://www.dcnyhistory.org .
I've barely scratched the surface of all the wonderful Cowan
information they have there, along with their fellow pioneers. Some of
you descend from these Delaware County, New York Cowans -- if you have
not delved into that site, do so! Some of the stuff I've unearthed is
on my genealogy blog: http://genweblog.blogspot.com/ . Feel free to
leave comments, or respond here.

I sent a couple of introductory posts to the group, perhaps before some
of you joined. It is very easy to click on the Scottish-Cowans link at
the bottom of every message and read them. You can even respond online
rather than email, if you like. This weekend was VERY busy, but as soon
as the house cools down a bit (over 90F here today!), I'll continue
with my analysis of the Cowan families of Delaware Co. NY.
