To the Chair of Student Volunteering Scotland,
I would like to introduce to your calendar for this year a very unusual volunteering opportunity for a high profile charity event with the intention of promoting it amongst students.
Walk the Walk is looking for volunteers for The MoonWalk Edinburgh 2010 - an amazing overnight power walking marathon taking place at Inverleith Park on the 19th of June 2010. It will see 15,000 people in fantastically decorated bras taking on marathon and half marathon walking challenges around the city to raise money for vital breast cancer causes.
The event will feature a broad range of volunteering opportunities – marshalling around Edinburgh’s famous landmarks, cheering home the Walkers and handing them their medals, keeping the pace as a cycle marshal and many other roles that I would be keen to discuss with potential volunteers. We are keen to place the right people in the right roles, and so we ask volunteers to let us know their skills, interests and preferences of volunteering activity.
There is more information about Walk the Walk, The MoonWalk Edinburgh and how people are benefiting from the grants we make on our website www.walkthewalk.org.
I would very much appreciate your advice on how to proceed with promoting this volunteering opportunity amongst the student body.
Thank you for your help and for the work you do on behalf of organisations and students – I look forward to hearing from you.
With good wishes and good health
Ian Lamb
