Students reported that pressing ctrl+F in Chrome browser during an exam on the scilympiad platform *closed* the browser window, instead of bringing up a search box.

Some of the graders seemed to know this or acknowledge this, and also suggested that it doesn't happen in Firefox.

Anyone else have this experience?

Actually, in all satellites usage of CTRL-F is not allowed and will trigger out of browser violations.

When taking satellites, students should keep their current browser open and should not open other tabs or use CTRL-F. They should also turn off screensavers and auto-lock as those will also trigger out of browser violations. If they need access to external images they should use a second device or some satellites will provide an image document.

That being said if the out of browser time is minimal a quick email to the tournament directors will clear it up.

The idea is to prevent kids from cheating by searching things up or opening another browser for answers. It's all honor system with proctors in the room to supervise and maintain academic integrity.

Some satellites will also have anti-cheat problems which will also raise red flags.

In short they shouldn't use CTRL-F, and likely what's happening is some special script to override CTRL-F and close the browser by design since it's a violation.

Good luck!
