All year I have been pointing my training to one event, and that took place this past weekend at Lake Holiday near Somonauk, IL. It was a sprint-distance triathlon; 400 yard swim, 12.1 mile bike and a 3.1 mile run.
The day simply could not have gone better. I felt great throughout the race. I was able to push much harder than I have in the last couple years. All those annoying injuries seemed to take the day off and allow me to compete.
I finished 30th out of about 160 participants. Most surprisingly I won my age group. It's the first time I've made the podium in a tri. My total time was 1:10:48.
Dixon was represented well. Joe Welty won his age-group and his son, Chris, finished 3rd.
