Hi Bruce,
Some things have changed and I cannot make the trip anymore, which is a bummer. I was looking forward to this conference.
Is there any way I could get a refund for my ticket?

Yes, although I will have to figure out how to do it with this new ticketing system. I'm traveling right now so give me a few days.
