Yes yes I know I have been not so good at getting all of us together
but after a long hiatus wine nights will be starting up again. I have
been thretening this theme for a long time - South African Wines!
Date: Tuesday 10/02/2007
Venue: 1493 Aarhus Drive, #3, Solvang CA 93463 (Andreas's place)
Theme: South African Wines
Here are some guidelines on buying South African wine:
Stores that have South African wines:
1. Cost Plus World Market, State Street, Santa Barbara - (they have a
large selection - generally priced between $7,99 and $19.99)
2. Lazy Acres
3. Trader Joe's (sometimes)
4. The Wine Cask (very pricey!)
5. I have also found South Aftrican wines at Gelsons and at
Albertsons.
The producers that generaly are available in the USA are the
following:
1. Goats-do-Roam (a play on the Côtes du Rhône from the Rhône region
in France)
2. Kanu
3. Sebeka
4. Kanonkop
5. Indaba
6. Broken Stone
The signature Red South African grape is Pinotageˌ [pronounced "pino
ˈtaʒə"], a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsualt [pronounced "san-
so"] . South Africa also produces excellent Shiraz (Syrah as it is
called in the USA) . When buying South Africa white wines - Sauvignn
Blanc ad Chenin Blanc are the best bets.
But if you see anything else excpet what is mentioned above - bring it
along.
In Vino Veritas and so forth.......
