Absolutely. Sign me up for an afternoon session. Pasadena or South Pasadena would be most convenient for me, as I have a committment in Pasadena on the 30th which is scheduled to go through noon.

Subject: Volunteers are needed for the first SGV Branch Home and Garden Tour
Volunteers are needed for the first US Green Building Council Green
Home and Garden Tour to be held 10:00 AM - 4 PM on April 30th in the
San Gabriel Valley. Volunteers will work a morning or afternoon shift
in one of the homes, and will receive a comp pass to see the other
homes. Interested volunteers should send their name, morning or
afternoon preference and cell number to pno...@earthlink.net. The
featured homes include the following:
1) An eco-friendly community consisting of new single family homes
located in Atwater Village. The homes feature photo voltaic systems,
natural ventilation with floor to ceiling walls of glass, extensive
day lighting with operable clerestory windows, bamboo flooring,
permeable paving, and energy efficient Bosch appliances.
2) Pasadena Sustainable Home - Photo voltaic panels, rain barrel,
vegetable garden, native garden, bio diesel processor, whole house
fan, bamboo flooring. This home was featured in a bedroom makeover
with the Living with Ed show. It includes custom made reclaimed wood
furniture, no-VOC paint, organic bedding, and many of the accessories
natural or made from salvaged materials.
3) South Pasadena Sustainable Garden - This is an example of what can
be created on small lots. Depth was added to the front yard by
installing a winding dry creek bed surrounded by drought resistant
plants such as spiky yuccas, agaves, kangaroo paws, blanket flower and
apricot mallow. A new gravel driveway leads to the backyard garden
where a vertical infinity fountain footed by a stone-laid fire pit
adjoins a seating area enclosed by lush plants. Set among them is an
invisible sound system with speakers in a quadrangle of rocks. Bulb-
strung lights are overhead. A second cozy seating area is around the
corner of the L-shaped yard, which features water-wise drip
irrigation.
4) Magnolia Courts at La Verne - an Energy Star qualified, luxury
condo project for Active Adults 55 and above. The sustainable features
include Effective Insulation, Advanced windows that reduces solar heat
gain, Tight construction and ducts, Efficient Equipment, Lighting and
Appliances, Radiant Barriers and Solar ready conduits.
5) Nob Hill Haus in Mount Washington - The experimental sustainable
Nob Hill Haus is a registered green building and features the first
ever permitted gray water system in Los Angeles along with a 3.2kW
solar PV array, a 120Gal solar water heater, a 1700 Gal rainwater
harvesting system, a cool rain screen facade aided by recycled
formaldehyde free high density insulation (R-21 in the walls and R-38
in the roof) with roofing that consists of high albedo standing seam
metal panels. Natural cooling is being facilitated by stack effect
venting and thermal mass walls and floor on the lowest level. All
windows are fitted out with Solarban 70XL high performance glazing. No
energy intense structural steel was used and the floor framing
consists of forest friendly manufactured I-joists. The kitchen hosts a
recycling center with dedicated bins for trash, glass, paper and
plastic and a composting center is provided in the garden. All toilets
have a dual flush function to further reduce the use of potable water
inside the house and the drip irrigation system along with drought
tolerant landscaping does the same for the garden. Energy star rated
appliances and a 240V outlet in the garage for a future plug in hybrid
round up the green building features of the residence.
6) Atwater Village Sustainable Home - Architect Rebecca Rudolph and
husband, Colin Thompson, a designer and builder, more than doubled the
size of a 500-square-foot house using inexpensive and re purposed
materials in surprising ways. The landscaping consists largely of
California natives and other drought-tolerant plants. The house also
features recycled pine fencing and a skylight.

Jim -
I am available in the afternoon. Pasadena would be my first choice followed
by South Pasadena. Thank you.
