It is a coincidence that Makarand has gone back to the reasons why we got together under this banner. I had some similar thoughts in my head and now is a good time to pen them down.

Like he said, we got together to bring all of us Maharashtrians on one common platform with shipping being the common thread.

However, other than a few of us meeting at regular intervals, consuming some alcohol, exchange of something topical and going back to our daily lives, we haven't achieved much.

Most importantly, we haven't seen any commercial gain within the group for any of our members. We haven't seen - at least, I am unaware of any commercial enterprise that has grown as a result of the platform.

Like Mandar remarked the other day, oh two Gujarati in an room and out comes am enterprise!! Yet, I must lament that we haven't seen that happen within so many Maharashtrians in one group. :-)

When I scan amongst the members I see hoards of talent, skills, entrepreneurs and money all available in abundance. Therfore much larger is my wonder that we have not been able to achieve anything commercial which would provide gain to the members or would promote Cooperative brilliance through the use of members of this platform.

Without making this sound like a long sermon may I request all members to consider whether there is scope for us 2 get together and work together or at least use our members by giving them some kind of a first right of refusal in business opportunities and we generate commerce and commercial activity amongst all members of this wonderful idea which is known as Samudra Sethu.

Trust this will be given some thought.

Members are invited to comment or make any suggestions that they think are topical and relevant.

we got together a few years ago as all of us for the following reasons, have common interests , we are connected to the shipping business and we are all Maharashtrians.

Samudrasetu has created a great bonding for all its members. However somewhere in the past few months we seem to be lacking in our commitments of meeting and promoting the prime objective of promoting businesses amongst marathi people in the shipping industry.

Yesterday , a few of us met and had a detailed discussion on the way ahead . Listing out below a few key points discussed:

We must have four meetings every year and it was suggested that the 3rd friday very quarter should be fixed, unless there is a festival or some other unavoidable circumstances. This will make it easier for all to adjust their respective schedules
A small presentation of not more than 20 mins by someone internal or we invite someone for it. Suggestions and participation most welcome
New members to be introduced and efforts of every member is needed of it. If anyone knows someone who would be suitable , request them to 1st inform me or Nitin Deosthali or Guru Talwalkar of the person's background so that the core committee can decide.
Many members are not receiving the e mails so we are planning to check it out or even delete the old group and form a new google group.
We found Matunga gymkhana most suitable venue as centrally located
NEXT MEET FRIDAY 16th JUNE

we request all members to give your suggestions and valuable inputs. Let us all keep Samudrasetu high on our priority list and put in efforts to promote the marathi cause. Everyone's participation is needed and we are sure we will get it to make it a success. As a community the perception is that we dont support eachother and with all our collective efforts, we can surely change this perception by proving the doubters wrong.

Hope to have maximum attendance on the 16th of June
