Hi,

Bruce said:

If everyone in this group did it once a month, and if each of you got at least one friend to pass it on or comment on it, Sam could reach lots of people, make more money and tour, maybe even to the land of Darrens. :-)

Sigh....

If only. It would be my dream to see Sam live again. Actually, I almost made it last year for the Santa Monica show in September. My family and I left Brisbane on the morning of September 14 and arrived in LA on the morning of September 14 (love that date line - but not coming back!!) and so missed the show by only 18 hours or so. The thing was, our original itinerary had us leaving a day earlier and so I would have been able to get there, but my wife had to stay for a 25-year school reunion, so we were delayed by a day. So close....

The link that Bruce sent in to the interview about the Long Play (http://blurt-online.com/features/view/577/) was very much appreciated, even in the land of Darrens. One comment from Sam that I found particularly interesting was this, in reference to Don't Do Anything - "I actually cut one version of the album and then decided to go back and recut half of it".

Finally I have confirmation from Sam herself about this. I remember, way back, in 2006 or 2007 when we were all waiting for something new, and Sam commented on her then website that she had finished the new album, but that it was "dark water". Then, later, there was a short comment in an interview somewhere in which Sam referred to going back into the studio to do more with the album - to write more songs, particularly to write more "happy songs". But when I asked about that sometime later, when Don't Do Anything was released, noone seemed to know anything. And now, in this interview, she says that this is what she did do. So, I'm glad to finally know. But - I wonder what the songs were that were on the original version of the album?

Another interesting comment is this one - "we hope to do a whole physical package of the Long Play if enough people are interested, maybe even vinyl, to do something really nice for people. But we will do a physical CD and make it available to anybody who wants to buy it, not just the Long Players."

I am actually surprised at how well I am coping not having physical CDs of the EPs so far, because I am definitely NOT one of the 'download' generation. I do need a physical CD, with artwork and liner notes and all those extra bits that go into the magic of having a new CD purchase to pore over and to appreciate. I even love the smell of a new CD booklet!! So pristine. So, I am definitely one who is interested in having a physical package of the whole year's worth of music, like a real CD (or maybe a double CD - with 5 EPs and a new album to fit, there might be too much music for one!). But I'm not sure about having to pay for it again...

Anyway, greetings from the land of Darrens...
