Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
At St. Seraphim Cathedral, your safety and peace of mind are very important to us. As an urban parish, we are taking steps to ensure everyone feels secure and welcome at our services. As part of this commitment, the Parish Council has arranged for an off-duty Dallas Police officer to be present on site, much like what PCPC and other local congregations have done for their communities. We hope you’ll join us in giving the officer a warm welcome—a kind word or a smile can go a long way in making him feel comfortable and showing our appreciation for his service.
For more information, please see the Q&A section below. If you have additional questions or would like to provide feedback regarding this security initiative, please speak to any Parish Council member.
We’re also looking for volunteers! If you’re interested in helping with security, medical response, or fire safety at the Cathedral, please contact Brett (Polycarp) or Matthew Sweeten on the Security Committee.
In Christ,
SSOC Parish Council

SECURITY INITIATIVE: QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Q: Why is the Parish Council hiring an off-duty police officer for security?
A: As an urban parish, we recognize the importance of being proactive in ensuring the safety of our parish family. An off-duty Dallas Police Department officer will help provide a reassuring presence and enhance security at both the Cathedral and the Fellowship Hall.
Q: Is there a specific reason for implementing this now?
A: The decision is part of a broader effort to continually improve safety and peace of mind for all parishioners and visitors, reflecting our commitment to a welcoming and secure environment.
Q: What will the officer do while on site?
A: The officer will monitor activities, provide a visible security presence, and assist with any situations that may arise to ensure everyone's well-being.
Q: Will the officer be in uniform?
A: Yes, the officer will be in uniform so parishioners and visitors can easily identify him if assistance is needed.
Q: Is this a temporary measure or an ongoing initiative?
A: This is the first step in a larger, ongoing security initiative. The Security Committee will continue to assess and enhance safety measures as needed.
Q: How does this affect parishioners and guests?
A: The presence of a law enforcement professional is intended to provide peace of mind and does not affect regular worship or parish activities.
Q: Who can I contact if I have questions or concerns about parish security, or if I would like to volunteer to help with security, medical response, or fire safety?
A: Please reach out to any Parish Council member with questions, concerns, or feedback regarding parish security. If you are interested in helping with security, medical response, or fire safety, please contact Brett (Polycarp) or Matthew Sweeten.
