The Forgotten Neighbourhood? Dundas/Nanaimo/McGill

I've put this out there a few times now but I though I'd do it again. As Eileen stated here, http://groups.google.com/group/SafeEastVanStreets/browse_thread/thread/fcd887af64a41e6f "There have been a number of questions and concerns raised about trucks continuing to take Nanaimo/McGill north of Hastings to the Port during the Pilot Project." and "trucks entering the Port MUST use the Clark/Hastings/Cassiar/ Bridgeway route as a condition of their license to enter and conduct business in the Port. They are not permitted to deviate from this route onto Nanaimo and McGill." So obviously some people are aware that these trucks are still not taking the Clark/Hastings/Cassiar/ Bridgeway route. My question would be, WHY wouldn't one of the GWCPC volunteer groups set up a watch at say Dundas and Nanaimo? Or even better, just sit at Commissioner Street and see which direction the trucks are coming from - east? or west? If they arrive at the Port from the west they are obviously deviating from the assigned route. The GWCPC collected valid information for the south part of Nanaimo Street but unfortunately the Dundas/Nanaimo/McGill community is still largely affected by the same amount of trucks we were seeing on south Nanaimo just a few weeks ago. I also realize that August 25th is it? date of the beginning of the pilot program was announced to start is just a few days away. If there is to be another traffic report from the GWCPC could they set one up north of Dundas on Nanaimo? It only makes sense to be fair to this large community as well. Thanks, *dalyn.

Hi Dalyn,
FYI our group has been working with the City on this area quite actively and there have been several communications specifically about this in the last week. Nanaimo north of Hastings and McGill is certainly on our radar and it is my understanding that the City are working with the Port to manage traffic on this area as well.  It is my understanding that trucks have been asked to follow the Hastings, Cassiar, Bridgeway route.  We will be in touch soon to ask for help on some projects around this area.
Also, the area north of Hastings on Nanaimo/McGill streets are not part of the GWCPC jurisdiction - it would be good if the residents of that area can coordinate volunteers from the Hastings Sunrise CPC to collect data from that area - or perhaps you could call them and check to see if they could set something up?
Cheers,
Cynthia
