Melina:
Thanks for your note. We had intended to have the speed limits extend on McGill from Nanaimo to Renfrew. We'll move the signs. Thanks for catching that.

it is good news for residents of nanaimo and renfrew but unless I read the sign incorrectly the stretch on nanaimo st betweeen dundas leading into McGill now has a sign that says the 30 km speed limit for truck ends ... this is the area that passes a neighbourhood house a school. a daycare.... Has anyone else seen this sign ( it is on the east side of Nanaimo just north of dundas st. )? And does anyone know what the speed limit for the trucks at that point would be? THere are still houses, kids and seniors crossing at those streets as welll.

Hi all,
This message is from the City via the Port. It explains the very effective solution the City Engineering/Transportation staff and the Deputy City Manager developed to keep container truck traffic off Nanaimo and Renfrew and to make Nanaimo safer for pedestrians by lowering the speed limit for all commercial trucks, not just container trucks. If this issue has concerned you over the past year and you are happy with this resolution of the problem, you might want to send a brief message of appreciation to the Port (see email address below)and the city (mayoran...@vancouver.ca). The last line of the message, indicating that the Port and the City share the common goal of re-opening the Clark Drive entrance to the Port, is something I think we all support.
Cheers,
Eileen

Good afternoon-
As you may be aware, the Truck Traffic Pilot Program ended on January 25, 2012. Please see message below from the City of Vancouver regarding the new signage that has been installed.

Dear Community Member,
As you know, the City of Vancouver has introduced a new speed limit of 30 km/hr for all commercial trucks on Nanaimo and Renfrew streets, north of Broadway. The City has also introduced turn restrictions for port destined container trucks on several streets (outlined below), and has now installed new signage to communicate the restrictions:
- No right turn at 41st Avenue (eastbound) while travelling northbound on Knight Street
- No right turn at Broadway (eastbound) while travelling northbound on Clark Drive
- No left turn at Nanaimo (northbound) while travelling eastbound on Broadway
- No left turn at Renfrew (northbound) while travelling eastbound on Broadway
The trucking industry has been notified of these restrictions, and provided with information on the new signage.
The City of Vancouver and Port Metro Vancouver will continue to work together to determine a long term approach to the movement of drayage container trucks through the City of Vancouver with the common goal of re-opening the Clark Drive entrance upon completion of the South Shore Corridor Project in 2014.
Thank you.
City of Vancouver
