Dear Mr. Booth,

Thank you for your email and voice message today.  You note that you are voicing concern regarding high numbers of trucks on Nanaimo Street today, the first day of the Truck Traffic Pilot Program

Please note that the Truck Traffic Pilot Program requires container trucks to use only Major Road Network (MRN) authorized routes in Vancouver.  The Pilot Program does not include other commercial vehicles (including commercial trucks) along this corridor.

In your voice message you also note the importance of enforcement.  Port Metro Vancouver commenced container truck traffic monitoring on Monday Aug. 8th on Nanaimo Street in advance of the 90 day Truck Traffic Pilot Program.  Today, Port Metro Vancouver has reported 4 container trucks on Nanaimo Street.  These container trucks will receive warning letters.

Monitoring will continue throughout the 90 days.  The City of Vancouver will carry out truck counts in mid-September to monitor the effectiveness of this trial program.

Residents are encouraged to provide public comments throughout the 90 days by phone (604.665.9066) or email (Public_...@portmetrovancouver.com). If we are unable to answer the phone, please leave a message that includes how you can be reached.  Comments will be summarized and posted on Port Metro Vancouver’s website.  For more information on public comment period, visit our website (http://www.portmetrovancouver.com/en/community.aspx).

I have also signed you up for Community Update emails relating to the Pilot Program.  Please let me know if you would like to be removed from this contact list for any reason.

I hope this information is helpful.

Kind regards,

Port Metro Vancouver

Subject: Today is August 25th and there should be no more trucks on Nanaimo Street!

City of Vancouver/ Port of Vancouver

to whom it concerns

Dear Madams/ Sirs,

as you for sure are aware, today, August 25th, starts the No Trucks on Nanaimo Street for three months trial.

I live on Nanaimo and East 3 rd and besides being woken up at 0.30 am! this morning, there had been by now (noon) at least 40 trucks on Nanaimo Street! How can this be?

Especially for the first day, why don't I see any law enforcement, to make sure the truckers/ trucking companies obey the new rule?

I am not saying to evoke their licenses right away, but at least give them a one-time warning, so they see and get that this is serious!

Please send out immedeately law inforcement to the now off-limits streets for trucks and to make sure the new law is being obeyed/ enforced. Thank you.

I would appreciate your urgent action and reply in this matter.

Sincerely,

Perry Booth
