We will hold the 4rth annual Durango Dirty Century (DDC) ride on June 29, 2013, starting downtown Durango at Velorution Cycles and ending later in the day or evening at Carver Brewing.   Carver is letting us hang out on the  patio and will give a free beer to all finishers.  In addition, Ska Brewing has donated several cases of beer that we use to support the Aid Station crews!

The registration is FULL - and there is a wait list in addition to several locals who will wait until the last minute to sign up.  So if you cannot make it, please remove your entry ASAP.

Website is located here:   http://coloradoes.wordpress.com/swes-event-list/durango-dirty-century-ddc/     Lots of pictures from past years ride if you are interested.

The DDC is a challenging 100-mile high country ride - up Hermosa then Bolam, and then ride the CT back into town at Celebration lake.  Folks are welcome to start earlier than out 6AM roll out if they need to.  Zach Guy holds the course record set in 2012.

We will have 3 AID STATIONS, and they work pot-luck style in that riders will bring food (cookies, chips, sodas, water jugs, brownies, and of course beer for the workers) to Velorution that AM, and then volunteers will take the stuff out on course.  PLEASE BRING DONATIONS FOR THESE AID STATIONS.  Of the 3 Aid Stations, we will have Sherry Schaaphok again at Hotel Draw, and Colin and Crew at Kennebec.  Feel free to have friends and family join them.  We do need help at the top of Hermosa Aid Station so please volunteer.  We will pay you in the Ska Beer and post party I'll ask for people to pick up your dinners, etc.

In addition, Tailwind Nutrition will again donate their sports drink nutrition beverage via 5-gallon jugs at each station.  Thanks Jeff Vierling!

I'd also like to suggest that the food donated be limited in wrappers/containers.  Sherry sets the bar for home made cookies, which not all of you can/will do.  But while individually wrapped items are easy to shove in a jersey pocket, they also can fall out and litter the trail.  Cans are fine for drinks as the station workers will try to recycle. If you pack your own zip lock baggie you can load up on snacks at each station and we minimize trail litter potential.  That said - the DDC riders in years have always been excellent in making sure we leave absolutely no trash on the trail.

Make sure to join up on the Facebook page for more real time updates.  https://www.facebook.com/ColoradoEnduranceSeries  Emails will be phased out for the SWES after this year.

See you all next week!

We are 2 days our for the 4th annual Durango Dirty Century! The weather looks great and the trails should be in excellent condition. However for those that have signed up, please know the following:

* Average time to complete DDC – 14 hours. Only 1/2 that start will finish.
* Average time to complete B Option – 12.5 hours. 3/4 will finish.

This is NOT the ride to use for your first 100-miler. It is not for beginners or intermediate riders – experts only. The effort here will be about 2 times that to complete a Leadville 100. Indian Peaks Ridge is at high elevation and very exposed to afternoon thunder and lightning – and it is in the middle of a very remote ~25 mile stretch where you have almost no options on bailing. Many of the “trails” out of there are primitive – unless you go to the Dolores side of the mountain. Remember that you are completely responsible for yourself out there. We will have aid stations with the food and water that you donate, but please know that these are staffed with volunteers who may or may not stay out as long as you will ride. There is no guarantee they will be there. If the station is not there when you arrive that is a pretty good sign that you are moving too slow for the course and it is time to head on an alternative route out of there.

Please read all of the SWES Rules: http://swes.wordpress.com/rules-regulations-and-responsibility.

We have a few open spots right now, so sign up if you can.  I suspect we will have a few more drop out before the start as well - happens every year.

See you Saturday!
