Got an update from Dave Ochs - wish him and Missy well as there is one
more Ochs on the planet now. There are some changes in store for 2011
- namely the loops have been reversed: Here is the note below and the
website has been updated. For those looking for a place to stay -
please check out The Elk Mountain Lodge and let them know you are in
town for the CB Classic. http://www.elkmountainlodge.com/

See you all in a few weeks!

8th Annual Crested Butte Classic – 2011

Well the leaves are changing, but the track couldn’t be sweeter, so it
must be time for the CB Classic. A couple of changes this year with
the course, we’ll be rockin’ the reverse order of trails. Main thing
is to be at the 4-way (Chamber of Commerce lot) at 6 AM for a little
pre-race meeting and time to start the trash talking. Plan on leaving
at 6:30 sharp in order to give the ample time needed to finish in
daylight.

As usual, no affiliations, no sponsors, you’re on your own here.

Gentleman’s rules, no marking but for the generic FS signs that are
out there. There may be cows on Deer Creek and it is IMPERATIVE to
close gates. If you go through one and it’s open, please just close
it – it’s for the good of all recreational use and the future of this
ride. Please be super courteous out there, adhere to all trail
etiquette, and remember you are an ambassador here for the sport and
the future of these rides.

Loop 1 – Dyke Trail. Neutral roll out for all riders, including the
Missy’s Mini Classic crew. This year we’ll start with the normal
number 3 loop. We will leave the 4-way, parade up Elk Avenue, right
by the Brick Oven Pizzeria where each loop will end for check in. We
will go up Old Kebler to Kebler pass, and once on the road proper, the
neutral start is over and it’s game on. We will head up the road
proper all the way to the ‘Y’, then head right at the ‘Y’ and go up
towards the Irwin townsite. South of the Lake, and then over to the
Dyke trail. After the Dyke, head up Kebler Pass road again towards
the top of the pass, but come off the road at the big switchback and
hit the far West end of the Wagon trail. Up the wagon trail to the
Irwin lake road (826) where you will bomb down this road back to the
‘Y’. We will not use the middle portion or the rambling portion of
the Wagon trail -that just takes you to the ‘Y’ anyway. Once back on
Kebler road, we will get back on the Wagon trail ¼ mile after the ‘Y’
– the piece that parallels the road we came up. Back down to the
Brick Oven for check in.

Loop 2 – Butte Ave to Peanut Road, to Lower Loop. Take the track, not
the Horse trail (wide path) and stay low on the trail out to Gunsight
bridge, and across to Slate River Road. Slate Du’Huez to FS Road 811
across to 403. Up Gothic Road to 401 – exit 401 at Rustlers, take
Gothic road back to town and the Brick Oven.

Loop 3 – Head towards the CB school and the Deli trail that parallels
Rt 135 out to Brush Creek road. Take Brush Creek all the way to the
Strand Hill road, up to Strand Singletrack. Out the Canal trail back
to Brush Creek Road, and head N/W on road to Deer Creek. Deer Creek
trail to Gothic road, and back to the Brick Oven. If there is a race
goin on here, set your sprint sights for the end of the dirt where the
Snodgrass trailhead is, or where the dirt meets pavement – then just a
cruise down the pavement to the Brick – we can’t be sprinting in town
limits or anything!

Missy’s Mini will be the same start, up to the Wagon trail that
parallels Kebler pass. Bomb down this and back to the Brick. Then
loop 2 is the Lower Loop, including the Budd Trail. Take Butte Ave,
Peanut Road, and get on the Lower loop proper. Take the Lower Lower
Loop first, then the Upper Lower Loop. Back towards town make sure
you take the right onto the Budd Trail, and take the Woods Walk trail
(parallel to Peanut Road) back to town and the Brick. Loop 3 will be
Strand Bonus trail – follow the Loop 3 directions to Strand Hill, but
don’t go all the way up to Strand proper, take the left and do just
the Strand Bonus trail, and back to town after. Do make sure you sign
in for the mini if doing just that.

As usual, the good folks at Avery Brewing will be supplying the
libations for the event. Always remember to hug your local Avery rep,
and do make sure to tip the Brick Oven staff who take care of you.

The CB Classic is now full and registration has been closed for 2011.
If you have signed up and do not believe that you will make it or even
finish the race, please remove your name from the registration list.
Thank you.

Keep checking the registration and it will perhaps re-open soon enough as people will cancel.  (so far one person has cancelled since this notice, so yeah the chances are good) Or take your chances at the start line as there will be no shows, etc.

Aaa bummer, I didn't realize you had to register. I was thinking this was all under the table show up at 6am and have some fun. Can we still add a name to the list and see if anything opens up?

Thanks,
Evan Ross
