So I did get to Seattle for the opening night of the touring Broadway show Fela! -- and while not without flaws, it's still a fantastic way to spend an evening. You can read my thoughts on the show here: http://www.soundroots.org/2013/05/fantastic-frustrating-fela.html
This week, STG airs the first of a series of programs highlighting the world-music sounds of different decades. The 1980s were when I really began discovering global sounds, so you’ll hear some of my early favorites plus many 80s artists & songs I’ve discovered since.
