Hello fellow STC-LA'ers!

Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I have been a software
tech writer since 1984, so I guess that probably makes me the 'old
guy' in the group! I became a tech writer like a lot of us 'old
folks' back then - I kinda fell into it from another profession,
though writing has always been my first love.

After switching my college major from Journalsim to Business
Administration and leaving a part-time sportswriting job with the
Daily Advertiser newspaper in Lafayette, LA, I started my career in
'big oil'. After two years and two out-of-state assignments, I moved
back to Lafayette and, four years later, was offered an opportunity to
become the company's first 'Documentation Specialist'. I had no
specific idea what a Documentation Specialist was but I knew it
involved writing so I jumped at the chance to return to the writing
profession.

It has been a very exciting, 24-year ride ever since. I have had the
good fortune of performing tech writing roles as a writer, editor,
consultant, and Documentation Manager. I have been involved in
developing and deploying printed doc, online help, e-learning
training, Web sites, and marketing and public relations collateral.

I have had the pleasure and honor to serve STC-LA in various
capacities. I first joined STC-LA when it was a full-fledged chapter
of its own, based in New Orleans. I have served as its President when
it became a satellite of the Houston Chapter based in Baton Rouge (I
was called a 'General Manager' back then!). I have also been
fortunate enough to attend an STC Annual Conference and been given a
Distinguished Chapter Service Award.

I am vey excited and happy to see new faces and new leadership in STC-
LA!. Though I have not been active in STC-LA since last February due
mainly to my enrolling in St. Joseph Seminary College in August in pre-
deacon studies, I hope to remain a member of STC-LA and contribute
when I can.

Very best wishes,

Steve Brunet
