Building on a Successful Program: Longer Tax Abatements Proposed at State Legislature

MRA’s Redevelopment Tax Abatement program helps jumpstart transformative projects by freezing property taxes on new development for seven years. Senate Bill 58, now in the New Mexico Legislature, would extend that exemption to 14 years, giving developers more time to complete projects. If passed, the change would apply to new projects beginning in 2026, bringing more investment, housing, and community benefits to Albuquerque’s redevelopment areas.
