Celebrate our new local art installations.  I am helping paint the following street murals.

The celebration on next Wednesday, June 17 @4:30-5:30pm is perfect timing before SSPNA Annual meeting that starts at 6pm, a short distance away, at Jack and Jill park on San Pedro and Bell.

Keep the sparks flowing!

Join us to celebrate the installation of new asphalt murals in the International District!

 Wednesday, June 17th

4:30-5:30PM

608 Grove St. SE

The event will be held at Grove Apartments, which is a short walk to the asphalt mural at the intersection of Southern Ave. and Grove St. Parking is available along both streets.

Come enjoy ice cream, community, and new artwork!

Have you seen the new artwork panels?

On April 15, we celebrated the installation of five new artwork panels at Wainwright Manor. Artwork panels were also recently installed at AHA's Grove and Pennsylvania properties. Local artist Marisol Driovinto worked with AHA residents in Fall 2025 to capture their vision for the future of the neighborhood and translated their ideas into these original pieces.

The artwork at Wainwright Manor (along Cardenas Dr. just north of Gibson Blvd. SE) and Grove (SE corner of Grove St. and Trumbull Ave. SE) is now proudly displayed for the benefit of the public housing residents and neighbors in the International District. We hope you'll check them out!

What are Early Action Activities?

As a part of the Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grant, the Early Action Activities are physical projects that are intended to accompany the planning process and result in small, but meaningful, actions and positive additions to the neighborhood.

The Early Action Activities in the International District are focused on bringing artwork to the neighborhood that reflects the community and site amenities that respond to the wants and needs of public housing residents. The activities include five original artwork panels at each housing site, two asphalt murals in the neighborhood, and seating, shade, and planters at Grove, Pennsylvania, and Wainwright Manor.

The asphalt murals are located at the intersections of Kathryn Ave. & Kentucky St. SE and Southern Ave. & Grove St. SE. These intersections were chosen because of their proximity to important assets in the International District the annual CiQlovía event on Kathryn Ave. and the recently renovated Phil Chacon Park on Southern Ave. as well as the AHA community on Grove St.

Explore the Transformation Plan

The final Transformation Plan is complete and was submitted to HUD in February 2026—bringing together coordinated strategies and projects focused on People, Housing, and Neighborhood. You can now download the full document to explore what lies ahead for the International District community.
