Good afternoon District 6 Food Justice community members,

The City of Albuquerque's Parks and Recreation Department is requesting $100,000 in Capital Outlay Funds from the New Mexico State Legislature to fund community garden projects being implemented through partnerships with community organizations.  The City's Local Agriculture Community Coordinator, Stefany Olivas (cc'd) is leading this effort and appreciates any support that community members can provide to get these community garden projects funded.   Funds would support the design, planning and construction of garden projects at community centers, as well as projects at other community gardens including but not limited to the International District, Singing Arrow, Martineztown, and other neighborhoods.  For more information about the funding request, please see the attached one-pager.

Call to Action: 

• If anyone is going up to the Roundhouse over the next few weeks or would like to make those calls to their representatives, we would greatly appreciate your advocacy for this request!
• Stefany Olivas would also like to personally support any specific initiatives that you all may have, so please feel free to follow up with her via email.

Example Points to include in your "Pitch"

• Hello, my name is _______ and I am a community member who [lives, works, and/or studies] in your Legislative District.  I am reaching out to you to ask for your support in funding the City of Albuquerque Parks and Recreation Department's "Community Garden and AG Projects" capital outlay request for $100,000. The LCS number for this capital outlay request is 836."
• "I am a [relationship to food initiative] in my neighborhood and community gardens are a top community priority that can become a reality with your support."
• "Can we get your pledge to provide capital outlay funding to support these projects? We greatly appreciate your support!"
