2023 Religion, Music, and Sound Section
Student Paper Prize Eligibility and Submission Guidelines
Dear colleagues,
As chair of the Religion, Music, and Sound Section of SEM, I am pleased to announce the opening of the 2023 RMSS Student Paper competition.
Who: Any student who presents, in person, a formal paper in the ethnomusicology of religion (broadly defined) at the Society for Ethnomusicology’s annual meeting is eligible for the Religion, Music, and Sound Section (RMSS) student paper prize. A student shall be defined as a person pursuing an active course of studies in a degree program. This includes persons who are engaged in writing the doctoral dissertation, but not those who occupy a full-time academic post while doing so. Previous winners of the RMSS student paper prize are ineligible.
Where: The applicant must email a copy of their paper to rmss...@gmail.com
When: By midnight CST on Tuesday, November 14th, 2023.
Please attach any separate multimedia components and include the following information in the body of the email:
Name
Email address
Current degree program
Institutional affiliation
Paper title
Date and time of presentation at SEM 2023
The paper and accompanying materials submitted must be the version that was presented at the conference and should not exceed twelve double-spaced pages (roughly 4,000 words). Applicants do not need to be dues-paying members of the RMSS to be eligible. The winner will be announced during the RMSS business meeting at SEM 2024 but need not be present to claim the prize.
Thank you for your consideration! We are excited to read and review all of the wonderful papers coming our way.
