In last night's meeting we discussed effective ways for us to get
businesses on board for the Safe Haven project, as well as to
strategically reach a core section of our neighborhood. We came up
with the idea of having block captains, so that each of us could take
on a manageable area. We created a grid from Market to Harrison and
4th to 8th streets to begin the program. Each person volunteering as a
block captain would be responsible to walk the block they choose and
talk with merchants about participating in the Safe Haven program,
give the merchants the information packets, and report back to this
group the contact information for any businesses that agreed to be a
part of the program. We would like to launch the program by October
1st and would ask that you would make time to visit the businesses and
report back to this group by Monday September 19th; so we can have
information compiled by our regular meeting on Monday, September 26th.
Please Reply to this email if you are willing to take a block, and we
can arrange to drop off information packets to you as well as give you
quick tips for what to say when approaching businesses.
Please consider volunteering (available blocks are listed below), and
thank you for your time.
