| Monsters Online Chat TONIGHT Are there such thing as real monsters out there? That will be the topic of discussion TONIGHT from 8:00pm – 10:00pm on our website! Our weekly ParaTalk scheduled for Sunday had to be postponed due to an event conflict, but we’re happy to feature it this evening. So come join us and share your thoughts on the legends of werewolves, vampires, bigfoot, and other monsters. Were they ever real? Do they exist somewhere in our world today? What do YOU believe?
To join in the chat simply Login To The ParaTalk By Clicking Here | “Crytps, Coffins, & Corpses” In Torrington Thursday Are you ready for Halloween? Join us at the Torrington Library on Thursday, October 18 at 6:00pm as we officially kick off the 13-day-countdown to Halloween with a brand-new presentation we’re calling “Crypts, Corpses, & Coffins” which will explore the history of burring the dead. From ancient civilizations massive monuments to spirits of ancestors, to the elaborate Victorian Era gothic cemeteries in Europe, to remains of forgotten people beneath the surface of Connecticut cities, we’ll be digging (not literally, of course) into this fascinating topic.
* SPECIAL After-Program “Meet & Greet” Thursday *
We are very excited to announce that immediately following the “Crypts, Corpses, and Coffins” talk at the library there will be a special “Meet & Greet” held at the Twin Colony Diner, 417 East Elm Street, just up the road from the library! The event is open to anyone interested in learning more about SGRA, meeting some of the team members, and enjoying a continued conversation. There is no registration necessary to attend, and people are welcome for as long as they can stay. | Last 2012 Secrets of New Haven Tours Sunday This Saturday, October 20th and Sunday, October 21st, at 2:00pm & 5:00pm we will be hosting the last “Secrets of New Haven” walking tours of 2012. The next tours will not be held until April of 2013 (of course, providing we are all still here after December 21, 2012). If you haven’t had a chance to attend one of these tours, this is a great opportunity! If you didn’t know about it before, our “Secrets of New Haven” event is a walking tour of downtown New Haven, revealing some of the secrets and spooky stories on this 90-minute tour! During the tour you'll learn about secret societies, buried bodies, murder mysteries, and lingering spirits... as well as some really interesting historical facts and little-known sites all around downtown and Yale University. Tickets are $10 for the public, or $5 for members or groups of 4 or more people. Advanced registration is REQUIRED as space is limited as per request from sites we visit. All ages are invited to attend, and there's even a "scavenger hunt" sheet for kids (and, yes, adults can play too) to see if they can spot hidden items. Tours take place if it is lightly raining, but will be postponed in the event of downpours. While there are places the tour stops for short breaks, it is a walking tour, so please be prepared to walk at least 2 blocks before stopping. The ground is level and there are no stairways, but comfortable shoes are always suggested. | “Vampires, Witches, & Werewolves” Come To Terryville Next Monday, October 22, at 6:30pm we’ll be bringing our hugely-popular “Vampires, Witches, & Werewolves” presentation to the Terryville Library (238 Main Street Terryville, CT).
Throughout New England there are monsterous legends speaking of vampires, witches, and werewolves. You may have only thought these creatures were the work of Hollywood, but these stories existed long before movies ever got a hold of them. We'll explore some of those which are local. Learn about Connecticut's history of witches. Find out where there's a headstone with the word "Vampire" on it. And explore the Native American legends of "shapeshifters," which is the origin of many werewolf stories! The program is free, but registration is requested so the library can have an approximate number of attendees. To register, please call (860) 582-3121. * SPECIAL PROGRAMMING NOTE – Following this event, the McDonalds located at 321 Main St. in Terryville (moments down the road from the library) will be hosting a “Meet & Greet” with the SGRA following the program! It is open to anyone interested, and registration is not required. |
