Hello, all tow pilots.

As of the moment, John Howell is the only tow pilot signed up to tow at this year’s junior XC academy in Ephrata June 28 to July 5. An event like this requires a minimum of two tow pilots. Without any further help, John will have the herculean task of providing 20 or more tows each day between 11:30 and 16:00 and the physical impossibility of getting everyone launched efficiently while the lift is working best—not counting any aero-retrieves.

The titanic voids in support for this junior effort are the things that make next year’s academy extremely questionable: all—adults and juniors—enjoy being served by the 200+ hours it has taken me to plan this big opportunity and get juniors qualified to attend. But my prior attempts to recruit tow pilots have come up empty. It can work have two or more additional tow pilots that will each commit to half the week. Candida will be cooking for everyone, including tow pilots, and the SGC has tow pilot bunks available downstairs in the training center.

This is a big commitment, for sure: joining the SGC, a pre-event checkout in an SGC tow plane at Ephrata the week before the event at the Region 8 contest, or at least the orientation day (June 28), and being at Ephrata for eight days to tow in an SGC Pawnee or 182. But if you think you may be interested, please contact me ASAP. The event is now less than three weeks away.

Thanks!
