Dear Friends,
This was mentioned in the SFLI News update sent recently, but I wanted to follow up on the recent Parental Notice events because I know many of you acted on the email that SFLI sent out.
Due to the HUNDREDS of calls made to Illinois State's Attorneys early last week, positive steps are now being taken to defend our Parental Notice Law!
Your voice was heard, loud and clear. In fact, email alerts made it all around the state of Illinois! As a result of your efforts, two great things happened last Thursday evening:
1) The Thomas More Society in Chicago filed legal papers on behalf of two State's Attorneys, Republican Stu Umholtz of Tazewell County and Democrat Ed Deters of Effingham County, asking Judge Coar to reconsider his decision and uphold our Parental Notice Law; and
2) The Attorney General's office filed a "Notice of Appeal," which confirms that the Attorney General will appeal to defend our Parental Notice Law. Joe Birkett, State's Attorney of DuPage County, along with other local State's Attorneys, was instrumental in convincing the Attorney General to act on Judge Coar's decision.
As efforts proceed to protect our pregnant sisters and daughters at risk for abortion, we will keep you updated and informed. Until then, THANK YOU for standing up for Life!
Life is Good!
