Slow Food Spokane River Listeners!

It's been a little time since we've circulated some good food info.
Grab a cup of locally roasted coffee and enjoy, or just skim the details and know where to go!

To get your juices flowing, this is no joke, but needs to be done by 2/27/11.
Help Michael Pollan write his next book of Food Rules!

Then, learn the back story and what's at stake right now for Pacific NW wild salmon.

Feeling the need to make a difference in our food system?
WA Congressional District 5 needs a Volunteer to Launch a Local Millions Against Monsanto Chapter.

The Millions Against Monsanto campaign currently has 286,511 supporters. Our goal is to grow that to 1,000,000 by World Food Day, October 16, 2011, when we'll get everyone out for a nationwide day of action against Monsanto. We need your help to build our ranks and use our power. Please get involved! Here's how...

Please volunteer (scroll down and check the "Volunteer for Millions Against Monsanto" box).

Learn more about the nationwide campaign here - http://www.purefood.org/monlink.html

Our upcoming Earth Day celebration would be the perfect place to get supporters and inform the public.

The seed packets are out for sale - it's time to think about gardening - maybe community-style?
Come Grow Spokane’s Community Gardens

WSU Spokane County Extension, 222 N. Havana
Come help make Community Gardening in Spokane bigger and better. Come help us build resiliency in our community by giving people access to growing their own food and while they are at it; building a stronger community. We need people to help form a community wide group to help neighborhoods organize, build leadership skills, plan and build more gardens, acquire resources and funding and teach people to garden. Whether you have a lot or a little time to help, we will have a place for you. Join us Monday evening, February 28, 6-9 pm at the WSU Spokane County Extension Office for a visioning meeting. Help us make community gardening a way of life in Spokane and a part of every neighborhood. For more information contact Pat Munts at 477-2173 (afternoons) or at pmu...@spokanecounty.org

WSU Stevens County Extension is presenting the second

“Commercial Kitchen Summit”

Tuesday, March 1, 2010 at WSU Stevens County Extension office from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

This workshop will bring in speakers who will help you understand the differences between a processing kitchen (usually privately owned) and a commercial kitchen (often a commercial enterprise.)  If you are interested in finding out information about how and which this type of kitchen would be your preferred option, please come to this workshop. Afternoon breakout sessions help you start working out details of your ideas. And, there

will be two local community members who have experience with building, managing, and using their own processing kitchens.

The workshop costs $10 to cover the costs of materials and a light lunch. Register and pay by February 28 to guarantee a place in the workshop. No refunds after February 25. Contact Ivy Nelson at (509) 684-258 orine...@wsu.edu.
