GREAT UPDATES!

Local Down to Earth Blogger, Paul Dillon, is heading up the bike group - thanks Paul!

And, this incredible news from the 350.org organizers (excerpt)...
"Thanks to you, this weekend will be remembered as the day when a single message blanketed more of the planet than ever before. This won't just be the most widespread day of carbon-cutting action in the planet's history--it will be the most widespread day of just about anything the earth has ever seen.

In the same year when global temperatures have set one scary new record after another, you are rewriting the record books for civic engagement. We don't have the final numbers yet because registrations are still streaming in, but it's clear that we're on track to shoot past 7000 events in 188 countries. That leaves four countries unaccounted for: North Korea, Andorra, Equatorial Guinea, and San Marino.  Barring those, the entire planet is engaged. Which makes sense, since this is the first issue that involves the entire planet.

We look at the map of events around the world (http://www.350.org/map)and some days it seems crazy, that this many people would volunteer to do this much work in this many places. But mostly it just seems beautiful."

Farm Tour & Lunch Potluck for Climate Solutions
10:30am - 2pm
Join The Whole Plate and community members in combining a very local farm tour with one of the over 6,100 international events on 10.10.10 to promote climate solutions. Spokane and Spokane Valley combined have 3 different events to participate in 350.org's Global Work Party to draw attention and ACTION to making real changes to reverse the climate crisis.
Our group will meet at Lincoln Heights, where everyone will bike or carpool (4.25 miles) to Heron Pond Farms.  We'll meet the goats, see how they make goat cheese, talk about food production close to town and enjoy a potluck from everyone's contributions (please try to include at least one local ingredient in your dish!) and try a little of their goat cheese!
$5.00 to sign up (limit 40ppl) - http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/132723

Senator Cantwell was invited to attend with the support of our 350.org partners. Though she cannot join us, she did want to share this with all who support climate solutions...
“Congratulations and thank you for participating in what we hope is the largest assemblage of carbon pollution cutting events our planet has ever seen,” said U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA).  “We need your voices now more than ever to overcome the special-interest polluters and science-denying politicians who are blocking our urgently needed transition to a clean energy future.  Our dangerous overdependence on fossil fuels threatens the ecosystems we depend on and hinders efforts to build new growth industries that can support millions of high-wage, ‘green-collar’ jobs while providing more affordable energy choices.  I believe setting a simple, fair, and transparent price on carbon is the key to tackling global warming and realizing the promise of a clean energy future.  That’s why I so appreciate Bill McKibben’s support of the bipartisan CLEAR Act climate legislation that I proposed with my colleague from Maine, Senator Susan Collins.”
