When you go to a job interview, do you wish the interviewer gives you
feedback at the end of the meeting?
When you go to a first date, do you wish your love interest gives you
feedback, such as acknowledging your wonderful mind and recommending
you to smile more?
At Toastmasters, we always provide feedback, whether you're an
impromptu speaker, or a greeter at a fun event like "Celebrate Chinese
New Year with Toastmasters".
All you need to do is to bring your attractive manuals and an
attractive notebook to each meeting. If you haven't received your
manuals, ask someone to write an evaluation on your notebook.
Another use of your attractive notebook: write down techniques others
used. For example, while Silicon Valley MET was waiting for a club
charter kit to arrive, Amy Zou made timer cards by printing green,
yellow, red on three pieces of paper. Another example: while
introducing his role as an Ah-counter, Ken Boyer said "Over the time,
you'll see the decrease of filler words in your speech." What a great
saying on the value of an Ah-counter role!
When you become a member, Toastmasters International will mail you two
manuals - competent communication manual and competent leadership
manual. It takes between one to three months. Should we wait, wait,
and wait? No. We can find someone with manuals, copy some pages from
the manuals, so we can get an evaluation for each role we take. Right
now, three members at San Francisco MET have manuals, loaned by a
sister club, Hult Toastmasters.
How about a job interview? How about a first date? Maybe we can start
with ourselves. Tell the job applicant, "you have great technical
skills! I recommend you to join Toastmasters to further enhance your
communication skills". Tell the charming one, "You have a big heart. I
also often to forget smile when meeting someone for the first time."
See you with your attractive manuals and notebook!
