How's your Thursday so far?

Last Thursday Silicon Valley MET had a guest, Jay. He arrived early.
That indicated he was very interested about Toastmasters! Since senior
members were busy in coaching recent members about their roles right
before the meeting, Jay was left alone most of the time. He left early
and didn't know that we welcome him.

Can this be improved?

Yes!

The solution is simple. It has only three words, "I want to". Great
examples of "I want to" are Karen, Bright, Sharon, Kyle, Joanna...

For instance, our new member Kyle asked, "I want to follow manuals. Is
there any way to get manuals faster?" Amy came up a solution - she
copied the initial pages of our attractive manual for new members.

For instance, after becoming a member, Sharon immediately started to
use easy-Speak to sign up for a role herself instead of waiting for
our VP education Andy to assign her a role. Andy doesn't need to guess
which role Sharon may be interested in taking each week.

If you say to yourself "I want to", what will happen?

You won't be able to stand the waiting, you'll ask "I want to be table
topics master next week, can you share your table topics master
experience with me" immediately after a meeting; you'll sign up for
the role on easy-speak immediately after arriving home; you'll
practice according to:
http://mandarinenglish.wikispaces.com/roles
http://mandarinenglish.wikispaces.com/simple-flow

You won't be able to stand the waiting, you'll ask, "I want to deliver
my icebreaker in 4 weeks. Can you look at my initial draft?"

You won't be able to stand the waiting, you'll ask "what can I help";
you'll arrive at least 10 minutes before the meeting starts, chat with
guests, help members who're newer than you, or assist our club mentor
Chris Pon in arranging tables and distributing evaluation forms.

Our guests won't be left alone. They will know that we welcome them.
They may become great examples of "I want to", just like you...

Enjoy Thursday...
Jenny
