Thank you Michael,
this was a very clear and concise message.

Is "mail reflector" the same thing as an "alias" email adress?

All the best,
Jonny

The add_to_...@servas.org address is a "mail reflector" and not a
mailbox. It does not receive and store messages.

Any email messages sent to:

     add_to_...@servas.org

will be accepted and then immediately and automatically redirected to:

     reneeg...@hotmail.com; and
     a.bha...@student.unimelb.edu.au

Renee and Arun will both receive email sent to this mail reflector at
their "regular" existing email addresses.

Cheers,

Michael

Ok,
thanks for that explanation.

I've heard it argued both ways, Jonny. I tend to think of an "alias" as
a "mail reflector" with one recipient. For example I would refer to
pres...@servas.org and alias for jon...@gmail.com.

Yes, I agree this is interesting.
Michael, thank you for enlighten us in the world of email admin!

Very interesting. I had never heard the term “Mail Reflector” before. Here’s a short definition for anyone interested in knowing more: http://searchsoa.techtarget.com/definition/e-mail-reflector

In the past I’ve always created a user mailbox and added a forward to the recipients personal email. I can see one distinct advantage to a “Mail Reflector” is that it doesn’t keep incoming mail on the host server (well, I suppose some might consider that a possible disadvantage, too, as there’s no longer a back-up).

I’ll have to see if the web host I work with has that product. It would save a lot of maintenance work for both myself and one of my clients in keeping there many mailboxes cleaned out.
